Putting communities first

Barb was elected to City Council in the Nov. 2022 special election. She is now running again for the full four-year term. A working mom with four young kids, Barb has been living in the Four Mile Run section of Greenfield (The Run) since 2014. Before becoming a City Councilmember, she sat on the Board of the Greenfield Community Association and is currently the Vice Chair of Pittsburghers for Public Transit. She’s also a member of the Greater Hazelwood Coalition Against Racial and Ethnic Disparities (GH-CARED). A life-long Democrat, Barb has volunteered for a number of campaigns, including for Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden, Ed Gainey, Summer Lee, and the Alliance for Police Accountability. A former teacher, she has volunteered regularly as an after-school teacher and tutor at The Pittsburgh Project and the Hazelwood Cobras Afterschool program. She also managed the pop stand for the Greenfield Baseball Association for the 2022 Spring season.

Barb played a key role in the winning fight to stop the Mon-Oakland Connector shuttle road through The Run, Schenley Park, and the Hazelwood Greenway. She is an advocate for safe, affordable, and effective public transportation. She is also working on projects to establish a co-op grocery store in Hazelwood and expand after-school programs in Glen Hazel; and is collaborating with members of the Greenfield School PTO on an initiative to raise funds for a much-needed playground at Greenfield School.

As City Councilperson, Barb continues to engage with residents and community organizations from across District 5 and the rest of Pittsburgh to ensure that their needs, concerns, and priorities are at the heart of government decision-making.
